Great book for the songs included, but some great ones left out

This book has plenty of great Paul McCartney songs, but also (in my opinion) plenty of duds. Naturally, with a catalog as large as Paul McCartney's, this is bound to happen. Some of the songs sound just delightful on solo guitar, while others don't sound very good with guitar alone (Tug of War and Pipes of Peace come to mind).

The songs that are included are well presented, with small chord diagrams at the beginning of each song, and chord names written above the lyrics. Some will complain that it's not spiral bound, this is a legitimate complaint but not something that bothers me a tremendous amount. Most songs are contained to two facing pages, so you can use two paperweights to hold it open while you play.

Plenty of playable songs for a relative beginner.

I've been playing less than a year and found this Paul McCartney chord book full of songs that I can work on and play fairly easily on my own. All the chord diagrams are there for each song, which is nice. I hope they have another volume of his songs because some of my personal favorites were missing. I'm anxious to try other books in this series.

I just started learning the guitar on 12/3/10. This book had me playing songs I love by my favorite artist (studio CD's since about 2000 not included)immediately. It is a great reference.

About the Author
Ana B. Porto Pazos is an Associate Professor at University of A Coruña, Spain (Department of Information Technologies and Communications). She is currently coordinator of the Master in Computer Science at University of A Coruña. She received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of A Coruña, Spain in 1999 and 2004 respectively. She has worked with several research groups such as: Artificial Neural Networks in Computer Science Faculty of the University Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) and Cellular Electrophysiology in Cajal Institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid. She has published more than 20 papers and book chapters about artificial neural networks, brain computer modelling, evolutionary computation, telemedicine, etc.

Alejandro Pazos Sierra is a Professor at University of A Coruña, Spain. He is currently the director of the Department of Information Technologies and Communications in University of A Coruña. He received the M.S. degree in Medicine from University of Santiago de Compostela in 1987. He received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) in 1989 and the Ph.D. degree in Medicine from University Complutense de Madrid (Spain) in 1996. He has worked with several research groups such as: Visualization and Usability Laboratory College of Computing in Georgia Institute of Technology, Decision Systems Group in Harvard Medical School, Section on Medical Informatics in Stanford University, Artificial Neural Networks Laboratory in Computer Science Faculty of the University Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), etc. He found and is currently the director of Artificial Neural Networks and Adaptive Systems Laboratory in the Faculty of Computer Science in A Coruña University. His current research interests include artificial neural network, medical image, evolutionary computation, adaptive systems, control medical systems and telemedicine. Dr. Pazos is author of more than 40 published papers and is a member of the IEEE and several honour societies, including ACM, International Neural Network Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Internet Society, etc.

Washington Buño Buceta is a Research Professor at Cajal Institute (CSIC), Madrid, Spain. He found and is currently the leader of the Cellular Electrophysiology Group (Department of Functional and Systems Neurobiology, Cajal Institute). He received the M.S. degree in Medicine from Universidad Autónoma of Madrid in 1975. He received the Ph.D. degree in Medicine from Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay in 1964 and the Ph.D. degree in Medicine from Universidad Autónoma of Madrid in 1982. His research interests cover neural plasticity, cellular electrophysiology, etc. He has more than 50 published papers, more than 20 research projects and has worked with several prestigious research groups such as: Laboratoire de Neurosciences Fonctionnelles Unité de Sensori-Motricité Comparée et Comportements - Centre National de la Recherche Scientific, Marsella (France), Dept. of Zoology and Genetics, Iowa State University, Ames (Iowa), Unidad de Neurofisiología del Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable" Faculty of Medicine, Montevideo (Uruguay), etc. He is a reviewer in journals such as Brain Research, Epilepsia, Hippocampus, Journal of Neuroscience, etc. and is a member of honour societies, including International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), Society for Neuroscience (USA), Academia de Ciencias de Latinoamérica, founder member of Sociedad Uruguaya de Electroencefalografía y Neurofisiología Clínica and Sociedad Española de Neurociencias, etc.

I picked this book up on a whim. I am glad I have. it is an engaging book that kept me what will happen next. not all the mysteries have been solved. I wonder what is going to happen next. so I am pleased to find out the second book is already out and that is what I am going to start now.

This was a pretty good book. It has a Harry potter feel to it. It has a really good story and the characters are really interesting. Can't wait to read book two. I would recommend this book.

Great series, just a step down from the Harry Potter series, but still five stars. I'm in my fifties, yet still this kept me entertained and wanting more. Sure, there are some similarities to HP, but plenty of differences. Kids will LOVE them!

A fun read of discovery.

Poor Jake.
He likes his guys Big.. Big Muscles, Big Build, Big Ego. Even Jake himself like to body build and lift weights to make himself Big.
And to add to all of the ego Jake has a Big list of female conquests to brag about. Just let any Gay try and flirt with him and Jake will put them in their place!!!

Then by a misplaced text message and an encounter with a fox who is also Big - Jake's life turns upside down and makes him rethink everything about himself.

An enjoyable read about coming out and acceptance of who you are.

The coverage is comprehensive and the material readily accessible as a student text and also provides a short reference and/or starting point for more developed professional or scholarly work. About the Author
Maryanne Grebenstein established the Abbey Studio in 1982, a professional calligraphy studio that produces hand-lettered documents as well as offering calligraphy courses. The studio also conducts manuscript study trips to museums and libraries in the United States and Europe. Maryanne teaches this ancient craft at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, at MassArt, and as a visiting artists at The Corcoran College of Art & Design in Washington, D.C. In collaboration with Grebenstein, North Bennet is presenting a new, one-semester full-time course in calligraphy, manuscript illumination, and bookbinding. From 2003-2009, Maryanne was a professor at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. In 2006 she authored the text book Calligraphy: A course in Hand Lettering, published by Watson-Guptill. Great book, although layout could be better

Pretty sure this is the same book republished in the USA by Watson-Guptill as "The Calligraphy Bible" http://www.amazon.com/Calligraphy-Bible-Complete-Essential-Techniques/dp/0823099342/ - just with a different cover.

If the original publisher (or author) reads this, I would make a few suggestions: Remove the wasted space on the Workbook pages - no calligrapher would write in a book like this - the ink would just run! Remove all the white space and the exemplars in the Workbook pages could fit on two pages easily. Also, the broad-pen examplar "nib widths" should match a known nib size (say, like Speedball C-2) so we could trace them.

In the earlier sections, where there is one chapter per hand, I really like the two-page spread for the Variations. But putting 4 variations on a page means that each one is really too small to be useful. (I might try to scan them and blow them up.) Would much rather see two on a page in a larger size. In fact, the original examplar on the chapter's opening page could be made bigger if it was moved to the facing page. As it is, the eye-candy "example" is larger than the more-useful exemplar itself.

Otherwise, really nice looking book. Looking forward to reading it in detail.
