This book gave me a different approach to use when I collect trees. kThe author doesn't look for the 'perfect' tree when collecting; he makes it perfect when he trains it. His ideas have helped me see alot more possibilities when collecting.

Fantastic Book

This book is great for anyone who is doing Bonsai in the Northeast US. Is the go-to book on Larch, and provides an abstract view into Bonsai. Not exactly a beginner book, but in my opinion it is a must-read.

I would like to have seen more information on actual collecting the trees. Little information is given about the author's observations with different root scenarios. What is the author's experience with hard trees he collected with few roots? With all his years of collecting I just expected more info. Also, the book is extremely limited on varieties of trees talked about. Being from the southeast US I had hoped for more information about native trees in my area. I had hoped the author had a broad enough knowledge of collecting many different species from different regions. Unfortunately all that he covers are a few varieties in his locale area, the upper northeastern US. Like many bonsai books I am left wanting.
