A "must read" for anyone interested in anesthesia!

One of the most effective ways to devalue a profession, or any group for that matter, is to ignore their history. Anesthesia texts written for primarily a physician audience have for decades systematically avoided mention of the considerable contributions made to the specialty of anesthesia by Nurse Anesthetists. This book tackles, and successfully masters the task of tracing the development of anesthesia as a nursing specialty from the 19th century to the 1980's. The author also chronicles the multiple, albeit unsuccessful, attempts of organized medicine to stifle the development CRNA's, the profession that has been providing the majority of anesthesia care to Americans for over a century. The book is a "must read" for anyone, nurse, physician or patient, who has an interest in the subject of anesthesia. It is worth the search to find the "out of print" work. Hopefullly, it will be reprinted!

Excellent account of historical aspects of the Nurse Anesthesia Profession and the AANA

The Nurse Anesthetist of today truly stands on the shoulders of Giants. This book is a wonderful rendition of the history of nurses providing anesthesia in the United States and of the history and beginnings of the professional organization known as the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. It is an excellent piece for anyone considering the CRNA profession and should be a primary reading requirement for all programs. Excellent story. Fantastic history.

This is especially true with modern endtime theology, it must agree with the whole of scripture or it simply cannot be the truth. Therefore it is not that which was once convincingly preached from selected texts of scripture that deserves the allegiance of our faith, rather that alone which cannot be shaken by the whole of God’s word. We must have proven truth, otherwise just like Edison’s failed light bulbs and batteries, our message will neither truly illuminate nor have sufficient power in it to deliver.

Nowadays hearing endtime theology has become similar to always hiking the same trail where such a familiarity is developed that the slopes and turns become so instinctive that very little focus or faith is needed to navigate it. Sadly most new hikers will simply follow the beaten path since it is the popular one. However, every so often along the way there will be the hint of a path that departs from the main trail where only the inquisitive will turn aside to see where the path leads. Many never becoming aware of the fact that beaten path is actually a newer path someone once took looking for an easier way and everyone else soon followed, while the old path forgotten slowly becomes less travelled.

If someone wants to be sure, they must be willing to leave the trail and take on the difficulties of climbing in order to reach a vantage point that is open and clear enough to verify the path they’re on is correct for safely reaching their desired destination. Likewise, when it comes to endtime theology most people are either so familiar with what they have always believed that they no longer examine it, or like that path most traveled they simply assume it's right since it's the popular one. Perhaps even worse, they have taken their eyes off their final destination being too focused or fearful about things happening in the world and are unaware that they are no longer walking in the Spirit according to the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that truly sets men free and restores their souls.

As it says in Jeremiah 6:16 - Thus saith the LORD, “Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not walk therein.”

I shared all this because this book, The Eighth Beast, will introduce a whole new perspective to many that is going to require their willingness to endure the difficulties of the climb if they want to reach that place where their perspective becomes clear so as to understand why America is going into captivity, and ultimately into perdition, and why God has said, “Come out of her, My people, that you partake not of her sins and receive not of her plagues... for strong is the Lord God who judges her.”

(NOTE: Many have stated that after reading chapter 18, "Is America Missing in Prophecy," that they went back and reread the book and wished they that chapter first.)

Even if you are not into the study of end time prophecy...read this book!

I am not one who is very well versed in end-time prophecy, and frankly I feel a bit inferior with regard to the study of it. But, with another viewpoint in mind, I have to say that this book spoke to me with regard to the biblical exhortation to walk in the fullness in which Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for us. The foundation of scriptural instruction, to be sanctified, was found throughout this book and I was so refreshed by this. I found the author's effectiveness to convey the power of The Word of God was very evident and his urging toward abiding in Christ was the foundation of this book. I know this was/is a book about America in prophecy, but I gleaned so much more from it than that alone and because of this aspect, I highly recommend this book as a tool to spark conversation about the depths of true faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and exactly what that means with regard to the church today and how it aligns with the Word of God/Jesus. (Chapter 6 about "Grace" is so noteworthy) In regard to the examination prophecy, and in regard to the last chapter of this book, there is much food for thought and frankly gave me some insight I had not considered before with regard to specific passages of Scripture. Very thought-provoking! I plan to read this book a 2nd time, because I feel I may have missed some other insights that I did not catch the first time.

Eye Opening & Informative

I am finding 'The Eighth Beast' (America in Prophecy) to be a book that anyone who is really desiring to know about the things of GOD and what is currently happening in the world and these United States of America in particular to be very insightful. With the help of all the scripture reading included, it is easier for me to read, stay focused and follow. I feel as though I am getting a more complete picture of who GOD is and how HE exercises HIS judgment, and is exercising HIS judgment toward America.

Perhaps being forthcoming might be helpful to that it is certainly a book that requires prayer, openness and perhaps even more than one reading to fully ingest it all.

Bear Shadow book a winner

The book itself is used, thus the 3 stars. The story, however, is 5 stars as it enhances a child's wonder. Beautiful story!

A Bear's shadow is a nice story

There are about twenty-eight pages with each one being of white background with various square sizes of the illustrations in blue, green, brown and white colors. This makes the picture a separate box and the text below or next to the picture.

The bear is a brown bear that starts the day by fishing at the pond. Bear notices a big fish while hooking the worm onto his pole and wants to catch it. The bear stood up to toss his pole in the water but his shadow scared the fish away. The bear tried to tell his shadow to go away but it stayed there. Since the shadow would not leave the Bear decided he would run until the shadow disappeared. The Bear ran around the pond, through a field of flowers and then jumped over a brook ending up hiding behind a tree.

Next the Bear went home to get a hammer and nails to nail his shadow to the ground but the shadow did not go down. Then the Bear got out a shovel thinking he could bury the shadow in a deep hole. By the time Bear finished filling the hole up it was afternoon with the sun high in the sky but no shadow to be found. After all this hard work Bear went inside to take a nap awakening after the sun had set. Bear went to open his front door and there was his shadow on the floor so he quickly shut the door going outside and hoping to leave his shadow inside.

It turned out his shadow was too quick because it was outside the door with the Bear. Now the Bear decided that if the shadow would let him catch a fish he would let the shadow get one too and when he nodded his head so did his shadow. Back to the pond the Bear goes again but this time the sun is in another part of the sky so the shadow was able to steer clear of scaring the fish. This time the shadow was behind the Bear while in the morning the shadow was in front of him closer to the pond. At the end of the day the Bear and his shadow caught their big fish.

My six-year old likes to play around with shadows on the wall in the house plus loves bears so this is a book that gets read quite often. I would suggest a toddler to first grader would benefit from the silliness of the bear and his shadow.

Very Cute, Holds Interest

My son loved this book! He even knew what would happen next and laughed and enjoyed seeing how silly bear was by trying to bury his own shadow. This was an excellent book, not too long, not too short and he will look forward to reading it by himself this year when he learns to read.
